PAY DETAILS
This is an hourly position listed at $38.53 per hour.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Performs effective and efficient right-of-way clearing and trimming in a safe manner and according to the system's requirements as a vital part of the maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted electric service to the membership.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
A. Reports to: Vegetation Management Supervisor
B. Directs: Line Clearance Crews
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides supervision to the crew to ensure efficient, effective and safe work performance.
- Provides line clearing and trimming services for electrical cooperative to correct specifications.
- Acts as a role model, demonstrating correct work procedures and best practices at all times. Leads by example.
- Instructs on what is to be done, the reason for doing the work in a specific manner and doing the work safely and efficiently.
- Actively teach and demonstrate relevant skills in accordance with work procedures.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produces daily time sheets for flagging crews.
- Directs the crew members in the clearing and trimming of right-of-way.
- Inspects right-of-way equipment.
- Conducts Vehicle and PPE inspections as often as required.
- Maintains right-of-way equipment.
- Enforces all safety rules for crew members.
- Performs crew members evaluations.
- Serves on after hours calls when needed.
- Provide coverage in the absence of the Vegetation Management Supervisor when necessary to ensure work is completed to include handling consumer complaints, coordinating and auditing contractors.
- Plans and executes assigned jobs and tasks.
- Aids and assists in the clearing of right-of-way easements for the purpose of new construction
- Clearly and precisely communicates with consumers to ensure open communication when work is being performed within utility easement on consumers property.
- Ensures care is taken to avoid damage to property while performing all Vegetation maintenance projects.
- Coaching, mentoring to support learning and supporting subordinates in learning, practicing and mastering skills while in the job situation.
- Provide coaching to help overcome difficulties in applying newly acquired knowledge and skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of experience in utility line clearing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a right of way pesticide applicators license.
- Ability to perform outdoors, in adverse weather conditions for extended periods.
- Ability to recognize all hazards associated with removal of trees located near utility lines and personal property.
- Have and maintain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.
- Ability to think clearly and utilize sound judgment.
- Ability to work for extended periods in confined areas.
- Ability to use tools and equipment in rough terrain.
- Ability to write in a clear legible manner.
- Ability to perform maintenance on utility equipment including hand tools, saws, chippers, skid steer, and aerial lifts.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed.
- Ability to read and understand staking sheets.
- Ability to lift objects of various sizes and shapes weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
- Ability to climb trees, structures, and equipment in excess of 10 feet in height for the purpose of inspection, trimming and evaluation.
- Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain for distances exceeding two miles.
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary for line clearing in a safe and efficient manner.
ON THE JOB TRAINING
Provides employee with an overall exposure to equipment and cooperative policy and procedures to aid the employee in transitioning to positions of increasing responsibility.
Trains when schools are provided by Jones-Onslow EMC.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal working conditions outside of office building. Regular working hours are from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday excluding weeks containing company observed holidays.
